“I have learned that what I have not drawn, I have never really seen, and when I start drawing an ordinary thing, I realize how extraordinary it is, sheer miracle."
— Frederick Franck
When I was four or five years old, I drew a picture of a girl — the usual child’s stick figure drawing of circles and triangles, with bristling lines for limbs and fingers. My mother, an artist herself, praised the drawing and then asked a question that I had never considered: “Is that what a girl looks like?” It was confounding. I have been drawing the world around me ever since, trying to find out what it looks like.
I worked in graphite and ink for years before discovering the magic of colored pencil. I enjoy creating portraits that catch moments and tell stories. My colored pencil drawings have won international awards. I am a member of the Colored Pencil Society of America and the United Kingdom Colour Pencil Society.
